Nyepi Day, or also known as The Day of Silence is a Hindu celebration that falls on March 25th in 2020. In the Balinese culture and tradition, Nyepi Day is a day of fasting and meditation. Starting from 06.00 AM on March 25th to 06.00 AM on March 26th, Vehicles and machinery are prohibited for use. Lights are forbidden. The airport is closed. Hence, no flight can either enter or exit Bali Island. Shops are closed and people across the island are prohibited to leave their homes and hotels. In the 24 hours, the island that is known for the island that never sleeps is in total silence. On the Eve of Nyepi Day is the “Pangrupukan”, where the locals build Ogoh-ogoh or demonic statues to be paraded along the streets. Ogoh-ogoh represents spiritual aims that are believed to purify the natural environment of any spiritual pollutants emitted from the activities of living beings.
In spite of the restrictions that are focused on self-meditation, visitors tend to avoid traveling to Bali during Nyepi Day. However, Nyepi Day gives us the chance to find peace away from the pressures and stress of everyday life.
