Grand Mirage Resort and Thalasso Bali are pleased to announce the addition of Executive Chef Matthew Wood to our remarkable culinary team. Chef Matthew brings along with him 30 years culinary experience in various International luxury hotels such as Sheraton, Nikko, Melia and previously with the paradise group in Bali. With his 30 years hospitality career, Chef Matthew has gained an in-depth understanding of how to take Grand Mirage Resort to the new culinary heights.

Quality, passion and respect are the main demands which he places on the ingredients and kitchen team. “I enjoy cooking and any new creation becomes almost meditative, the rhythm & concentration involved & the end result.” His modern approach to cooking is the fusion of Asian and Western cuisine during his 14 years in Asia with traditional French technique and recipes.

Matthew has a vast experience in preparing meals and events for many Kings and Queens & visiting dignitaries while in Vietnam & Jakarta.

Chef Matthew knew that cooking would be his chosen career for his entire life the first time he walked into a kitchen for an interview. “The site of chefs in crisp white uniforms, with the figure of the chef giving instructions to diligent staff intrigued me, everybody focused on the task at hand, creating masterpieces in the kitchen.” Married to a Balinese and blessed with one son, Chef Matthew is indeed a charming person and his food creations captivate us and left us with great memories.
